These are the things that have been sticking with me.
A friend introduced me to the band Dirty Loops. I don't know how I haven't heard of them before. They're amazing and I'm hooked.
BOOKS AND ARTICLES
I've been studying a lot of behavioral economics recently. It's a subject I've really become quite interested in. I've really enjoyed Dan Ariely's book, "Predictably Irrational" on the subject.
SCRIPTURE, QUOTES, AND WISDOM
Gavin Johnson, Co-Lead Pastor at Citylight Church in Omaha, preached on Psalm 1 this past Sunday. It was an exceptional reminder of how important it is to curate our influences well. Something I've written on in the past and spent some significant time advocating when I speak. Psalm 1 begins:
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Pastor Gavin points out how the Psalm moves from "walk" to "stand" to "sit" in the first verse. Be careful what you allow to influence you. The content you consume. The books you read. The media you watch. The people who you listen to.
