The Best Classical Music Playlist

I spend my time listening to all kinds of music. I can appreciate almost anything with exceptions of what I find flat out offensive, anything from the early 80's, and anything by Chris Brown (jerk face). Wile studying for my undergrad degree I spent countless hours listening to and performing what would generally be considered classical music. I think the most common misconception about classical music is that it's all the same. This is very far from the truth. The variance in classical music genres and styles is very wide, as is the quality. Some of it is great, some of it I can appreciate, and much of it is just bad. For example, I took multiple semesters of music history in which I listened to countless pieces of music from all of the classical music eras and much of it pretty blah.

So what is good? Well I suppose that's pretty subjective, but I'll give you a few to get you started. If this is your first time dipping your toes into the world of classical music, I think these are good places to start.

1. Adagio for Strings Op.11 by Barber
2. Requiem in D minor K 626 by Mozart
3. The Four Seasons, Concerto No. 4 in F minor, Op. 8, RV 297 by Vivaldi
4. Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major BWV 1007 by Bach
5. Symphony No. 40 in G Minor K 550 - 1st Movement by Mozart
6. Symphony No. 1 in B flat, Op. 38 (Spring) by Schumann
7. Concerto for 2 Violins BWV 1043: 1st Movement by Bach (also known as the "Bach Double")
8. Sinfonia in G BWV 248: Pastorale by Bach
9. Piano Sonata No. 11 in A Major K 331, 3rd Movement by Mozart (aslo known as Turkish Rondo)
10. Violin Concerto in A Minor BWV 1041, 1st Movement by Bach

The thing about this wide music genre is that there are hundreds of great pieces. Part of the fun is accepting the challenege of learning about it and finding great music. For instance my "classical" playlist also includes some music from the movie "Lord of Rings". If you pick up a free account with Spotify it's really easy to dink around and find suggestions of other pieces you might like based on what you are listening to.

Let me know what your favorites are here in the comments. I'd love to add them to my playlist!
