Motivation is an Epidemic

I hear a lot about motivation these days. Sometimes I think we even disguise the conversation with words like "inspiration". Don't get me wrong, we all need a little inspiration in our lives. It's a good thing - until it's not.

Have you ever felt that, without it, you can't move forward? Paralyzed by it's absence. So many times I've thought to myself, "I just need to find some motivation".

So we spend our time trying to get motivated instead of actually doing anything with value. How many opportunities have passed in the name of lacking motivation?

Too many.

I think discipline is a lost art form. I don't see a lot of people blogging about discipline these days. There's nothing sexy about it. No one has a romantic view of discipline. I don't often think to myself, "I just need to find a little more discipline". Blah.

The most successful people I can find seem to value discipline significantly more than motivation. I think there's something to that.

And this: the more we accomplish, the more motivation we find. I hate paradox.
